Why a QR code per participant make tours smoother

Unlike systems where everyone scans a shared QR code or enters a PIN, every Nubart LIVE code is unique and non-transferable.

Everyone joins instantly: No crowding around a single screen. Each participant scans their own code and is ready to go — all at once.

Independent and stress-free: If someone disconnects, they simply scan again. No need to ask the guide or interrupt the tour.

Full control for the guide: Only invited participants can join. No unexpected listeners and no interference between groups.

Questions for the guide? No problem

Most standard tour guide systems (devices) don't allow guests to ask questions.

Others have a push-to-talk button that allows the guest to broadcast a question to the entire group. However, shy participants may be reluctant to interrupt the guide. And the more daring can take over the tour and ask endless questions, making the experience worse for everyone.

Nubart LIVE offers a non-invasive solution where questions are collected on the guide's smartphone and the guide can answer them at the appropriate time.

If you have purchased the simultaneous translation module, the questions will be translated automatically.

    FAQ

    Getting Started

No. Nubart LIVE works entirely in the mobile browser. Just scan and listen.

Nubart LIVE works in any environment with internet connectivity. For noisy environments like factories, we recommend using a unidirectional microphone. Request a free trial kit to test in your specific setting.

Yes. It works in any location with internet connectivity: via Wi-Fi indoors or mobile data outdoors.

    During the Tour

This is not a problem at all.

When opening a group as a guide, we recommend scanning a few extra cards in case someone arrives late.

If this happens, simply hand one of those already scanned cards to the late arrival. That’s all — they will be able to join the group immediately.

Once you close the group, you can reuse those extra cards for the next tour. Cards only become non-transferable once participants scan them themselves, not when the guide scans them.

A small delay of up to one second between the guide and participants (latency) is unavoidable with internet-based systems.

Latency is affected by smartphone performance, connection quality, and whether participants use the same mobile data provider.

However, if the guide speaks in a low voice, the latency is barely noticeable—participants will primarily hear the amplified voice from their smartphone rather than an echo from the guide's natural voice.

If you want to take the call, just tap "mute" and answer your phone.

The group will remain connected but on hold while you talk. When you're done with the call, return to the browser. If some participants show a red light instead of green, tap "reload"—everyone will reconnect without needing to rescan their QR codes.

Note: On Android, if you forget to mute before answering, participants may hear your side of the conversation. On iPhone, they won't hear anything.

The system will automatically reconnect when the connection is restored. Participants do not need to rescan their cards.

Participants can use their phone's speaker. However, headphones provide better audio quality and prevent the guide's amplified voice from creating an echo effect.

No. Cards are reusable but non-transferable. Each participant keeps their own card for the entire trip.
More about using Nubart LIVE on a trip.

    AI Translation Add-on

The guide selects the language they will speak and activates the translator. Participants scan the QR code and choose their preferred language from 35+ options. They can either listen to the guide's original voice or receive real-time AI translation as both text and audio on their screen.

See our instructions to know more.

The Nubart LIVE AI-powered translation add-on currently supports Arabic, Bulgarian, Cantonese, Catalan, Chinese, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Filipino, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese.

Google Translate is a great personal tool for translating short phrases, signs or simple conversations on your own device. However, it is not designed for guiding a moving group of visitors in real time.

While Google Translate can play short audio snippets, it is not designed to provide a continuous, hands-free audio stream. Each visitor has to manage the app individually, start and stop the microphone, trigger playback, and read small text on their screen. Timing, interruptions and delays vary from person to person, which quickly becomes confusing in a group setting.

Nubart LIVE is built specifically for guided tours and factory visits. One guide speaks once into a microphone, and all participants receive the same audio stream in sync on their own smartphones — no app download required.

With the optional AI translation add-on, the translation is directly linked to the guide’s live audio stream. Participants simply choose their preferred language and follow the tour together, instead of each person running a separate translation app.

In short: Google Translate is ideal for individual use; Nubart LIVE is designed for shared, synchronized guided experiences.

    Technical Details

All the "background work" of our technology takes place on the guide's smartphone. It is therefore desirable that your guides have a modern smartphone with a good processor and a reasonably new battery.

However, this does not affect the group members: for them the battery load is not much higher than when listening to a podcast or an audiobook. For example, one hour of continuous use consumes 8% of the battery on a 4 year old Android phone.

About 20 MB per hour. Since our system is unidirectional (only the guide speaks) and we do not broadcast video, our system uses much less data than a video call in Zoom or Skype. Even less than a regular phone call!

Yes — and for many tour operators, this is actually the recommended setup. A portable WiFi hotspot with a local prepaid SIM card is all you need. The guide carries the hotspot, participants connect to it as they would any WiFi network, and turn off data roaming on their own phones. They incur no data charges whatsoever.

Nubart LIVE works with any standard hotspot device and any SIM card — you are free to choose whatever hardware and data plan best suits your budget and destination. This approach is especially useful when your group includes international visitors who may face roaming charges, when tours take place in areas with patchy mobile coverage, or simply when you want to guarantee a consistent connection regardless of each participant's phone plan or carrier.

Yes, significantly. Without translation, Nubart LIVE uses only about 20 MB per hour regardless of group size — less than a regular phone call. With the AI translation add-on active, each participant receives their own individually translated audio stream, so consumption scales with the number of listeners. For a group of 50 people over a full day of guiding, expect roughly 10–11 GB in total.

If you are running multi-day tours or large groups with translation active, we recommend sizing your data plan accordingly — or simply choosing an unlimited option, which typically costs only a few euros more and removes any concern about running out mid-tour.

For WiFi-only use, your network should support the number of concurrent users expected and allow peer-to-peer connections (WebRTC). Contact us for specific technical requirements.

    Cards

No. Regardless of the package you choose, you just have to buy the cards once and keep them until you need them. Just order a refill when you run out.

Design customization is included in our Medium and Professional packages.
You send us the images, logos and other elements you want on your card and our designer will create several design proposals for you to choose from.

Yes. Cards are printed on FSC-certified cardboard, and we fully offset all CO2 emissions from production and shipping.

Each Nubart LIVE card contains a unique, non-transferable code. This is a deliberate design choice that solves real problems other systems ignore.

No bottleneck at tour start: Instead of 25 people queuing to scan one small phone screen, each participant scans their own card independently. The guide can even pre-scan the cards before handing them out, forming the group in advance.

Session recovery: Tourists constantly leave their browser to take photos, check messages, or use other apps. With a shared digital code, they lose their connection and have to interrupt the guide. With a Nubart LIVE card, they simply re-scan and rejoin instantly — no guide assistance needed.

Access control: Unlike systems where anyone who knows a PIN or sees a QR code can join, Nubart LIVE gives the guide full control over who is in the group. No uninvited listeners, no confusion between overlapping tour groups at the same location.

Need a card-free option for spontaneous or one-off events? Ask us about our printable QR code sheets — same unique codes, ready in minutes.

    Pricing

No. Regardless of the package you choose, you buy the cards once and keep them until you need them. Just order a refill when you run out.

Yes. The AI translation add-on works with any card package — Print-Your-Own, Basic, or Custom. You are free to combine them as needed.

One stream-hour = one guide with translation active for one hour. If two guides run translated tours at the same time, that's two stream-hours per clock hour. The price is per stream, not per language — if your group listens in Japanese, French, and Arabic simultaneously, it's still one stream-hour at €39.

No. The translation counter only runs while the guide is actively speaking with the translation add-on switched on. If the guide mutes the microphone, both the live audio stream and the translation stop — and so does the counter (it turns black so you know it's not billing). If the guide is speaking without the translation add-on activated, there is no translation charge at all. And if the guide accidentally leaves the translation on but stays silent, the system will automatically stop counting after one hour of silence. You only pay for actual translated speaking time.

Absolutely. Use any of the "Request a Free Trial Kit" buttons on this page and you will receive 6 QR codes for a test group. The first 30 minutes of translation use are free. The trial also includes a demo media library so you can try our remote control feature.

Each guide will see a timer on their mobile screen showing their usage time. You can also view detailed usage statistics in your customer area, including total hours used and any outstanding amounts for your company.
