Remote-controlled audio guides: how one guide can lead a multilingual group

Some tours can only happen with a guide present. A palace protecting fragile interiors, a former mine, an active archaeological dig, a reserve with dangerous wildlife: all of these require a guide for safety, preservation, or legal reasons. The moment visitors in that group speak different languages, the guide faces a problem with no good answer, since splitting the group by language means separate time slots, and running everyone through in one shared language leaves half the group guessing.

Human guides aren't optional everywhere. Palaces and house museums often restrict access to self-guided visitors to protect fragile interiors. Former mines, decommissioned military sites, and active archaeological digs require a guide for safety and to keep visitors out of restricted areas. Reserves with dangerous wildlife or protected ecosystems work the same way. In all of these cases, replacing the human guide with a self-guided audio tour usually isn't an option, and it wouldn't solve the language problem anyway.
Recruiting and retaining guides who are fluent in several languages remains genuinely difficult in most markets, and even a guide who speaks three languages fluently can only lead in one of them at a time. So the group ends up organized around that constraint: an English tour at 10:00, a French tour at 11:00, a Japanese tour at 12:00. A visitor who shows up at the wrong hour either waits or leaves, and a site that turns away spontaneous visitors is leaving revenue on the table.
How Nubart GUIDE's remote control works
Nubart GUIDE's remote control addresses this directly for a guide leading a single group. The guide logs into their Nubart account from their own phone. Each visitor scans a QR code, on a printed card or displayed at the entrance, and picks their language on their own phone. No app, no registration. Pressing a track on the guide's phone sends a short signal telling every visitor's phone to play the matching recording that's already stored on it; the guide's own voice is never transmitted, only that signal is.
Two different kinds of tours put this to work. In one, the guide narrates the whole time and the recordings cover every language they don't speak. In the other, the person leading the group isn't narrating at all, and every explanation comes from the recordings. The first is the more familiar picture, so it's worth starting there.
When the guide narrates
As the guide moves through the site and narrates live in their own language, they trigger the matching pre-recorded track for every other language from their phone, at the exact moment it's relevant. Picture a guide leading a tour in French: French-speaking visitors hear the guide directly, while English and Japanese speakers in the same group hear the corresponding pre-recorded explanation arrive on their own phone the moment the guide reaches that point of interest. The whole group moves at one pace, together, regardless of how many languages are represented.
When someone supervises instead
In the second version, nobody needs to narrate at all. Some sites need a person leading the group for reasons that have nothing to do with narration: keeping visitors away from a fragile surface, watching for anyone straying into a restricted area, or simply making sure the group moves through on schedule. That person's job is to watch, not to tell the story, so there's no need for them to be a trained, multilingual guide at all. With remote control, that same attendant can trigger every track, in every language, at each point of interest, while focusing entirely on supervision. The narration itself comes from the recordings, not from them. For a site that needs someone present but doesn't need that person to be a subject-matter expert, this opens up who can do the job and makes the role far easier to staff and hand over between shifts.

Because it's a QR-based PWA rather than a native app, there's nothing to install. This kind of live triggering used to require a native app, since browsers would normally stop audio playback the moment a visitor's screen locked. Nubart's own development work solved that specific problem, so a guide's trigger still reaches the visitor's phone even if their screen is off. The trigger signal itself also needs very little bandwidth, so it keeps working even where the venue's Wi-Fi or mobile signal is weak. In a genuine dead zone, the trigger can't get through, but the tour doesn't stop for it: every visitor's phone has already preloaded the full guide through Nubart's offline mode, so the guide simply calls out the track number and the group selects it themselves before moving on.

How many groups can share one QR code
It's worth understanding exactly how the trigger works, because it defines where this fits. By default, one remote control session reaches everyone connected to it: when the guide triggers a track, it goes out to anyone who currently has that audio guide open, not only the people standing in front of them. That's exactly right for a single guide running a single group.
For sites that expect more than one group at a time, Nubart can set up an optional group mode instead: each visitor picks their group, such as "Group 1" or "Group 2", when they scan in, and from then on a guide's trigger only reaches their own group. Self-guided visitors browsing without picking a group aren't affected either.
What this setup isn't built for is a constantly changing number of independent groups, where visitors would need to be assigned dynamically rather than choosing for themselves at the start. That's the one case where Nubart LIVE, described below, fits better.

If the tour runs on a boat, bus, or another vehicle, Nubart MOTION is built specifically for that setting. Triggering usually follows GPS location as the vehicle moves, but a driver or guide can also switch to triggering commentary manually, clicking each stop when the moment feels right rather than relying on GPS alone. That difference matters most when connectivity is unreliable. Nubart LIVE needs a steady connection throughout the visit, not only when translation is switched on, because it's carrying a continuous stream: if a participant's phone drops the connection, there's nothing they can do about it themselves. Nubart GUIDE's remote control keeps a manual fallback instead, since the audio is already stored on the phone: if a trigger can't get through, the guide calls out the track number and the visitor selects it themselves. For a site with patchy connectivity throughout the visit, that fallback often ends up being the deciding factor.
